Thomas Henry Benton, the second son of Anson M. Benton and Eleanor Huff was born on September 11,1868 in Bethlehem Township in Henry County, Missouri where his parents had arrived as pioneers in the fall of 1866. 1870 finds Thomas living in Tabor, Ross Township, Freemont County, Iowa, where his father is a butcher. By 1881 the Benton family had migrated to Moore, Lambton, Ontario where Thomas's mother, Eleanor Huff was possibly originally from.

On February 27, 1891, Thomas married Martha Alma Braham in Cheboygan County, Michigan. To this union two children were born, a son, Russel Clarence Benton, and a daughter, Elizabeth Blanch Benton Becks. Thomas worked during his life as a machinest, a mechanic and an engineer. He lived most of his adult life in Cheboygan, Michigan, Canada and at one point was working in Erie, N.Y.

By 1930, Thomas and Martha's granddaughter, June G. Kreider came to live with them and continued to live with them until she was possibly an adult.

Thomas and his wife, Martha, lived in Cheboygan, Michigan for much of their old age, but at some point moved to the Michigan-Wisconsin border area. Thomas died in Wisconsin, but is buried in Riverside Cemetery, Menominee, Menominee County, just across the border in Michigan.
