When Dorthea Jean Bradford was born on July 27, 1927, in Lockhart, Caldwell, Texas, while her parents were living in an oil camp in Dale, Caldwell, Texas. Her father, Robert Posten "Jack" Bradford, was 24 and her mother, Lorena Maye Vance, was 22. She married Everett Eric Walters on February 5, 1944, in Houston, Harris, Texas. She was the granddaughter of James Thomas "Jim" Bradford and Mary Jane "Mollie" Gilbert Bradford and James Alexander "Jim" Vance and Nancy Ann "Tensie" Steele Vance. She had four children by the time she was 26. One daughter, Judy, died at about 8 months. She had Cheryl Lee, Carol Lynn, and Cathy Lou. She named them with the same initials. CLW. When it came time to mark clothing to go to camps etc, she realize that the initials would not work. So, she sewed a red, purple or green dot of thread on the girls clothing and also the initials. She was a member of First Presbyterian where she was active in many activities. She was active in helping with any thing that the schools needed to help her children. She died on October 4, 1996, in Longview, Gregg, Texas, at the age of 69, and was buried in Rosewood Cemetery.

Funeral services for Dorthea Jean Bradford Walters, 69, of Longview will be held at noon Monday in the Rader Funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jack Bennet, Interim Minister, and past minister Dr. W.D. O'Neal of the First Presbyterian Church of Longview where she was a member and the Rev. Bobby Moore of the Greggton Baptist Church of Longview who is the minister of Travis and Dorthy Parr, in-laws of Cheryl Walters Parr.

He ministered to both Everett and Dorthea during their illnesses. Interment will follow in Rosewood Park Cemetery Mrs. Walters died at her residence. Dorthea Jean Bradford Walters was the daughter of Robert Poston"Jack" and Lorena Maye (Vance) Bradford, who preceded her in death. She was born of July 27, 1927, in Lockhart Texas but her parents were living an oil camp in Dale, Caldwell County, Texas. Because of her father's oil field related job, she moved to Kilgore in 1931 which was during the East Texas oil boom of which Kilgore was the largest field. She attended Kilgore and Longview schools and graduated from Naples High School. She married Everett Eric Walters of Garner, Parker County, Texas and he preceded her in death on March 8, 1995. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Longview as a youth and an adult with a family.

There were at one time five generations of her family that were active in the church. She was a homemaker, active in the church, and active in her girl's school activities. She continued to support her grandchildren in all their activities.

She was preceded in death by her only sibling, Robert Vance "Bob" Bradford, on September 18, 1995. Those surviving Mrs. Walters are her daughter and son in law, Cheryl and Edwin Parr, Longview; daughter, Carol Hardin, Richardson; her daughter and son in law, Cathy and Don Massie of Riverside CA, and her grandchildren, Erica, Chris, and Brad Parr; Janet Hardin;/ Brett and Brooke Massie. The family received friends at the funeral home 5-7 PM today.
