Amos Goines Darnell was born in Blythe, Georgia,on April 18, 1919. They lived on Patterson Bridge Road in Blythe. Later his parents bought land on what is now Fort Gordon. The family was forced to sell out to the government, for the Military Base that is now Fort Gordon, and they moved to Augusta, Georgia. A financial downfall, they never recovered from, as the amount of money they received was not enough to purchase another farm.

He was a Mechanic & Truck Driver and built houses.

He married Katherine Virginia Brown. On March 12, 1944, he joined the Navy because "he didn't want to walk across Europe." At the time he had 4 daughters and was living on Green Street in Augusta. He was released from service on Dec. 10, 1945, after serving 1 year 8 months, and 29 days. During his time in service he was stationed aboard the ship The USS Moare. His rank was CoxT. His discharge was Honorable.

After returning home in 1945, he built a house next to his parents, and there raised 7 children. He was a home builder, and with a friend named Robert, started the company Amro Builders.

He died from Lung Cancer on March 4, 1982 at the age of 63 at the Veterans Hospital in Augusta. The family lived on Milledgeville Road in Augusta.
