Melanie Payne, 57, of Main St., Amsterdam, died Dec. 20, 2007, unexpectedly in her home. Born Oct. I, 1950, in Steubenville, she was a daughter of the late George and Margaret OToole Vahalik. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Amsterdam and the Catholic Womens Society of the church. She was also a board member for the Amsterdam Library and a member of the Amsterdam Fire Department Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husand, Louie Payne, whom she married April 1, 1978; four brothers, Bruce Vahalik of ElCahon, CA; Terry Vahalik of Seattle, WA; Dennis Vahalik and Chad Vahalik, both of Amsterdam; and several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be Dec. 27 at 10 a.m. in Sweeney-Dodds Funeral Home of Amsterdam with Fr. Jack McCoy officiating. Burial will follow in Harlem Springs Cemetery. Visition will be Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
