Martha "Mattie" Medley Paine was the wife of Charles Paine (1797-1863). She was listed with her husband, Charles, on the 1850 and 1860 censuses in Van Buren County, Tennessee. In 1870, she was listed as the head of her own household living in McMinnville, Warren County, Tennessee with five of her children and two grandchildren. (Her husband died in 1863.) In 1880, she resided in Van Buren County, Tennessee, in the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Robert T. and Malvina Thomason. Children included: Benjamin, William, Louisa Jane (m. Caleb McBride), Louise (m. Baker), Henry C., Joseph T. Winfield S., and Malvina (m. Robert T. Thomason).
