John served as a Private First Class, 9th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.

He resided in Baltimore, Maryland prior to the war.

John was "Killed In Action" during the war.

He was awarded a Purple Heart.

As noted in the below article John was first interred in the Calvary Cemetery, Altoona, Pennsylvania. In 1957 he was re-interred here to be with his Dad.

Altoona Tribune, Altoona, PA, 4/28/1948:

The body of Pfc. John Wilbur St. Clair, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl St. Clair who have resided in Baltimore for some years, has arrived in the city and funeral arrangements have been made for him. Friends will be received at the Jones Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday morning with solemn high requiem mass in St. Leo's church followed by internment in Calvary Cemetery.

John was born in Altoona, Jan. 22, 1923, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl K. and Edna (Plunkett) St. Clair. He attended St. Leo's parochial school, D.S. Keith Junior High school and Altoona High School. The family moved to Baltimore in 1941.
Surviving are his parents and the following brothers and sisters: Robert of Pittsburg, Mrs. Mary Jane Branic of Altoona, Donald and Mrs. Elaine Herple, both of Baltimore.
John served with the Ninth Marines, enlisting in Baltimore. He trained at Parris Island, N.C. and Camp Lejune, S.C., going overseas from the west coast. His first action was the battle of Bougainville.
