Robert U. Bley a life resident of Longmont died February 19, 2012 at Longmont United Hospital. He was 87 years old.
He was born September 9, 1924 in Longmont to Joseph H. and Addie M. (Brown) Bley. Robert's mother died when he was 4 months old. He was lovingly raised by his step-mom, Genevieve (Arend) Bley. He graduated from Longmont High School on June 6, 1942.
The day following graduation he joined the United States Navy to serve his country during WWII. Robert was Honorably discharged on January 8, 1946.
On August 24, 1948 at St. John's Catholic Church he married Mary B. Shipp.
Robert was a carpenter for 35 years during which he worked on the VA Hospital in Denver with Del Webb Construction, the Rocky Mountain Arsenal for Utah Construction, 14 years with Lombardi Construction, Geworskey Construction and then with his twin brother Roland until 1983. 1983 to 1986 he worked for Life Products. Robert closed out his working career from 1986 to 2007 at Axelson Machine.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Robert was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle. He enjoyed sports, and was an especially avid Bronco's fan, having had season tickets for 47 years. He also enjoyed fly fishing. Having a rare blood type, Robert gave to those in need by being a blood donor. He had given 64 gallons through Bonfils Blood Center.
He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, mother, father and step-mother, two brothers Joseph and Roland; and one sister Betty Lapena.
Robert is survived by his wife Mary of Longmont, son Scott Robert Bley (wife Shari); two daughters Marla Swenson (husband Craig) and Kathy Axelson (husband Larry), sister Margaret Tomich (husband Ralph); seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11:00am Fri. Feb. 24, 2012 at the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Interment at Foothills Gardens of Memory.
