Beverley Helen Turner Benn 1931-2011 SALEM, NY Beverley "Bev" Benn passed away at home Saturday, March 19th, from a recently diagnosed illness. Her life is celebrated by her children (Robert Jr., Jonathan, Christopher, and Jennifer) with their wives/partners, and her four grandchildren (Geoffrey, Jeremy, Meghan, and Matthew). She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and daughter, Melissa. Beverley was born September 8, 1931 in Montpelier, Vt., to Sidney and Margaret McLenithan Turner. She graduated from Bennington High School and in 1950, married Robert J. Benn, with whom she traveled the world - England, Okinawa, Hawaii and many US cities in between - compliments of the U.S. Army. They retired and moved to Salem, NY in 1974. Bev was known for her many passions in life: reading, knitting, baking, collecting Santa Claus figurines, greeting card-making, and gardening (but not weeding) to name a few. If there was a bit of hard work, or preferably, a bit of mischief to be had, you could always count her in. She was a student of life - loving to learn new things, to meet new people, and to always sit back and watch as the story of the everyday unfolded like a fine novel. But her greatest passion was for her family and for her friends, whom she gathered in with an abundance of love (and patience). For them she has a message - delivered with her twinkling-eyed sense of humor: "Woo-Hoo, it's been a good ride - make the most of yours!" At Bev's request, there will be no calling hours. Contributions in Bev's memory may be made to the Salem Rescue Squad, PO Box 360, Salem, NY 12865 or to the Historic Salem Courthouse Preservation Association, PO Box 140, Salem, NY 12865.
