Henry C. Herrold was born near Rochester, Indiana, September 10, 1848, and departed this life May 22, 1921, aged 72 years, 8 months and 12 days. When ten years of age he came with his parents to Grass Creek, where he has since resided with the exception of 18 months spent in Washington. He also served his country during the Civil War, being a member of Company A, 155th Infantry, and was honorably discharged August 4, 1865 at Dover, Delaware. On December 27, 1874, he was united in marriage with Sarah Ellen Julian, This union was terminated by death, after 46 years, 4 months and 25 days. To them were born five children, all of whom survive; Davilo O. Herrold, of Salem, Oregon; Mrs. Laura Sedam, Mrs. Anna Hizer, John W. Herrold and Mrs. Pearl S. Williams, all of near Grass Creek. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. There are also two surviving sisters and one brother as follows: Mrs. Mary Williams of Kewanna, Mrs. Elizabeth Sale, of Lafayette and Oscar Herrold of Grass Creek. Mr. Herrold was a man of quiet modest disposition, had strong moral qualities and was a great lover of his children. He was reared a Lutheran and later was a member of the United Brethern and then of the Disciples Churches. During his last illness he expressed his belief in the Adventist faith. While confined to his bed he often prayed and his last conscious statement to his friends was, "All is clear to the Kingdom." Funeral services were conducted at Grass Creek U. B. Church Wednesday in charge of Rev. A. F, Knepp, with interment in Grass Creek cemetery.
