Mary J. Artman, 85 of 4909 Upper Road, Shamokin, East Cameron Twp., died peacefully in her home at 1:03 a.m., July 9, 2010 surrounded by her family.
Born in Helfenstein on May 18, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Paul Q. and Jennie M. (Kramer) Hepler.
She was married on Jan. 31, 1942 to the late Clifford B. Artman who died exactly 7 years before her on July 9, 2003.
She was a member of the St. Paul's Reformed U.C.C. Church in Gowen City. Mary was a member of the Regina Rebekah Lodge 230 for more than thirty years and served as Noble Grand three times.
She worked at the former Cluett-Peabody Co. in Shamokin and last as a cook at the Friendly Nursing Home in Pitman.
She loved her visits for tea and coffee with her family and friends, caring neighbors and her wonderful care givers and nursing staff. Thankfully, she was never lonely and lovingly referred to her home as "Grand Central Station".
Surviving are two sons and their partners, Maynard E. Haas and companion Darlene Stank, and Clifford P. Artman and his wife Carol Ann, all of Gowen City; 6 grandchildren, Jeffrey Haas, Lori Vinitski and her husband Tom, Tammy Lesher and her husband Dean, David Artman, Linda Getchey and her husband Tony, and Michael Artman and his wife Connie; 11 great-grandchildren, Derick Haas and his wife Mindy, Kyle Haas, Matt Haas, Allison and Bryon Rusinko, Deana Lesher, Sarah and Anthony Getchey, Michael Artman Jr., and Alexandra and Zachary Vinitski; two sisters, Martha Rutledge of Birmingham, Alabama, and Rose Klauger of Helfenstein; a brother, Paul Hepler of Enola; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Brandon Haas and a brother, Lamar Hepler.
Funeral services were held Monday July 12, 2010 from the St. Paul's Reformed U.C.C Church at Gowen City, PA, with Reverend Jerry Schlegel officiating.
A Rebekah service was held on Sunday, July 11, 2010 at St. Paul's Reformed U.C.C. Church. Interment was in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Gowen City.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Reformed U.C.C. Church Memorial Fund, 4881 Upper Road, Shamokin, PA 17872 , or to the VNA Crossing Hospice 21 West Independence St., Shamokin, PA 17872.
