widow of John Astley. Her father Adam Smith was an actor and singer as was her mother who was formerly Miss Hester Spencer. After her father died ca 1778 her mother married a Mr Woodham.

Hannah is known to have performed with the Astleys as early as 1791 in Dublin. She and John were married in January 1801. Her husband wrote melodramas so that she could act as well as ride in their performances.

Her mother died On September 2, 1803 when the theatre caught fire. She went back to save the day's recipts. She was buried on September 5th.

Hannah's husband was a noted horse rider. He took over managemnt of the Astley amplitheatres in England, Ireland and France. In 1821 her husband became ill and like his father went to their Paris home upon a doctor's advice where he died in the same bed and room as his father had in 1814.

She returned to England and inherited part of her father in laws estate which he had set up in case her husband died earlier than her. Her husband added to that.

In her will she left 50 pounds to an ayslum for aged Masons.

At the time of her death she lived at 1 York Place, Cumberwell, New Road. Buried on October 5, 1843
