Jeffie Lorene Alewine, 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at her daughter's home, Wednesday, February 22, 2012. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Cottonwood Cemetery officiated by Pastor Buddy Sipe. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at the Pecan Grove Funeral Home Chapel, in Waco.
Lorene was born in Hill County, Texas, to the late Robert and Pearl Glenn, the fifth of 10 children. She attended Chilton schools and lived the majority of her life in the Waco area. She met Dee Welder Alewine at a Halloween dance and they married on Dec. 14, 1935. Lorene worked as a seamstress and she retired from FabKnit Manufacturing in 1982.
Lorene was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years in October of 2002; and brothers, Jack Glenn, Elmer Glenn, JB Glenn, RB Glenn, Kenneth Glenn, and James Ray Glenn; and sisters, Delpha Karnes, Minnie Mae Blagg, Duffa Lansford.
Lorene is survived by her daughter, Sandy Strickland and husband, Eddie, of Golinda; grandchildren, Deborah Jackson and husband, Sean, of Tatum, Texas, and Christopher Strickland, of Houston; great-grandchildren, Trent and Nicholas Jackson, of Tatum; nephew, Doyle Glenn and wife, Lynn, of Axtell; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
