Helen Westenfield appears to have been the stepmother of David's daughter Helen Marion Westenfield (by an odd coincidence both named Helen) but she does not appear to be the biological mother, who was born in Utah and whose maiden name was Steed. Helen Frechette Westenfield was still listed under her maiden name in the 1940 census, 15 years after Helen Marion Westenfield was born. Apparently Helen Frechette and David Westenfield were married after 1940, but I don't know the exact date or year.
By the way, further research by Becky Dobbert appears to have found David's first wife, Helen Mar Steed Westenfield Sterling. William David Westenfield and Helen Floy Frechette got a marriage license in Los Angeles. The notice was in the L.A. Times dated July 17, 1951.
