Actress. She is remembered for being a pioneer in the Hollywood film industry. Credited as “Hylda Hollis,” she appeared in roles in the fifteen black-and-white silent movies such as “Girl of the Night” and “Jewel,” both filmed in 1915. In the 1915 movie “Dad,” she was listed in the credits as “Hilda Sloman.” Before arriving in California in 1914 , she had married in Minnesota a British-born actor, Edward Sloman, who became a successful actor, director, and screenwriter in Hollywood. In the 1916 film “The Secret of the Submarine”, she was credited as “Hylda Hollis”. In 1916, she was credited in the Universal Pictures movie in “The Black Box” as “Hylda Slomon”. By 1917, she was a mother of a daughter and retired from films. In September of 1927, she had a part in the Broadway play, “Half a Widow,” which opened and closed in ten days. As with many of the silent era films, some of hers were lost or turned to dust stored in a reel tin.
