He was a Private in Company F, 364 Infantry during World War I. He shipped out on the troop ship SS Olympic on 12 July 1918. This unit was assigned to the 91st Division and saw service in Ypres-Lys, Meuse-Argonne and Lorraine. (U.S., Army Transport Service, Passenger Lists, 1910-1939, Ancestry). His wife survived him and she is buried in her home town of Vermillion, South Dakota.
