Frieda "Freda" Vogtsberger was born on 2 May 1903 in Bötzingen, Baden (now part of Germany), the daughter of Carl Vogtsberger (1870-1907) and Anna Marie Leisinger (1873-1957.)

Freda immigrated as an infant with her family to the USA on the ship Chemnitz from Bremen, reaching Ellis Island on 9 October 1903. Her family settled near friends and relatives in Umatilla County, Oregon.

Freda married Mirl E Crowton on 17 September 1919 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Freda later remarried to James Angus Frank Monroe in about 1930. She lived most of her live in Los Angeles County, California, including in San Fernando and North Hills.

Freda was a noted portrait, still life, and scenery painter. She took lessons from the portrait artist Edward Runci, who painted Carla Wittel at the piano. (Carla Marie Wittel (1933-?) was Freda's niece, the daughter of Anna Maria Vogtsberger Wittel.)
