Mrs. Beulah Klein & her husband, Harry Fred Klein, were enroute to work at the General Motors plant in Los Angeles, where they both worked; Mr. Klein was driving. They were not far from their home when, according to news accounts, a milk truck driven by Mrs. Goldie Leona Wagner, turned off of a dairy road, onto 10th Avenue, swung wide into their lane, and struck their car head on. Both vehicles were operating without lights due to the blackout.

Mr. Klein was taken by ambulance to St. Luke's Hospital, suffering from several broken ribs and shock, but Mrs. Klein, sadly, died enroute. Mrs. Wagner, was treated at a local Dr's office for a severe gash over her left eye.

The accident occurred at 1703 S. 10th Avenue in Arcadia, at 6:40 a.m. - just 41 minutes before the "all clear" was sounded and the blackout order lifted at 7:21 a.m.

Mrs. Klein's body was taken to Glasser & John's Mortuary.

She was born in Venice, Erie County, Ohio (a suburb or hamlet of Sandusky, on Lake Erie) to Phillip Theodore Young and Sophia Hartung. She and her husband were married May 19, 1910, in Sandusky, and were former residents of Sandusky, where they had operated "Ye Old Mill" restaurant in the 200 block of Jackson until moving to the Los Angeles area 10 years prior to her death. Her husband had also worked there as a railroad car repairman at one time.

She was survived by her husband, three sons, and one daughter (all since deceased), and was predeceased by one daughter, Vivian, in 1940.
