In 1900 he, his parents, four siblings, and a boarder, 19-year-old Ben Sisk, lived in a place they were renting in Wakefield, KS.

In 1910 he and his parents ans five siblings lived in the same Township, and possibly the same place. His father worked as a jeweler, he as a lineman for the telephone company, and Essie as a "hello girl"--probably a telephone operator.

In 1920 he was one of six boarders in the home of William Lavo, his wife, and their daughter. He worked as a salesman for Shoe King.

In 1930 he was a roomer in the home of Helen "Nellie" Duss, her children Carl and Jean, and sister Dorothy B Bright, at 4480 Crenshaw Boulevard in Los Angeles, CA. Carl worked as a salesman at a gas filling station, jean as a drug salesman, Dorothy as a saleslady at a building company, and Charles as a real estate salesman.

In 1940 he and his wife lived in an apartment they were renting for $35 a month at 138 South Westmoreland Avenue in Los Angeles. He worked as the proprietor of a soda fountain.
