Laura was the daughter of Evalyne (nee Irving) and William H. Van Sant. She married Frederick "Fred" Hoffhaus on March 18, 1894 in Vernon County, Missouri. Their children were Glessie, Reta Darlene, and Fay. Laura was widowed around 1935. She moved with her daughter, Reta, to the Los Angeles area where she lived to the age of 91.
