He married Mabel B. Norris, a New York native, on June 27, 1905.

Dr. Hodgson served nearly half a century as a Methodist minister.
He served at the Methodist Episcopal Church in Duluth, Minnesota, in the Northern Minnesota and North Dakota Conferences. He was transferred to the Southern California Conference in 1927. In California, he served at the United Methodist Church; the Glendale First Church (1933); the Termino Avenue Methodist Church (now the Belmont Heights Methodist Church) in Long Beach; the First Methodist Church in Los Angeles; and finally, as Chaplain of the Methodist Hospital in Los Angeles until his death.
Rev. Dr. William Clague Hodgson passed away on May 11, 1954, in Los Angeles County, California. He was predeceased by his wife, Mabel B. Hodgson.
Dr. Hodgson's Memorial Service was at the First Methodist Church, in Glendale, California, on May 14, 1954. Interment followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale.
