James Nemo Gaisford was born July 23, 1936 to Walter Logie Gaisford and Danna Eda Eckard in Los Angeles, California. Jim was adored by his family because of his sweet nature and honest character. I am including in his Obituary, an excerpt from his mother's diary. It gives a glimpse into Jim's growing up years and explains why we all loved him so much.
"Jim was born, a twin of Judy, on July 23, 1936. He was not an afterthought of the Creator but a SPECIAL child of God, scheduled for mortal birth accompanied by his sister whose birth was an answer to prayer. His naivety, perhaps because of precipitation into a world unknown, 2 1/2 months ahead of schedule, led us to love and laugh with him and appreciate the excitement he brought to our lives. Our experiences with Jim began early in his life and so I have written this down so you can enjoy Jim too. SIX YEARS OLD - My son Jim was 6 years old when his father was an electrician at Paramount Studios and we had occasional lunch privileges at the studio commissary. We were all seated near the door when a waitress leaned over and whispered: "That's Gary Cooper coming in' - Jim, an avid baseball fan stood up on his chair to see. A look of excitement came over his face and he exclaimed in a loud voice, 'Ah, that's not Gary Cooper, that's Lou Gehrig'. Mr. Cooper turned to him with a big smile and bowed graciously to the applause of amused onlookers, including Cecile B. deMile who was sitting with friends at a nearby table." In his mother's Life Story, the story telling of his experiences goes on for four pages. Jim graduated from South Pasadena High School and took his business training at Pacific Coast College in Pasadena, California. He later went on to become a Vice-President of the Lloyd's Bank in California because of his honest dealings with customers and his wonderful personality that generated trust from his clients. Jim was a great baseball player and probably could have played professional ball, but he had poor vision in one eye and he felt that physical disability would limit his contribution to the sport. Jim developed emphysema in his late thirties and he suffered with this illness until his death at age 43.
Jim married Patricia Egge in 1958. They had two children together, Debbie Gaisford and James Neil Gaisford. They were later divorced. In 1965 he married Mary Mershon and they had one son, Keith Solomon Gaisford. Jim was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was preceded in death by his father Walter Logie Gaisford.
Jim is survived by: his mother, Danna Eckard (Brigham) Ostergaard of South Pasadena, his brothers Donald (Claudia) Gaisford, Jerry (Donna) Gaisford, Walter Dan (Marie)
Gaisford and his twin sister, Judy (Arden) Kelton.
