Former Canadian marathon runner and founder of the multi-million dollar PowerBar empire. He died suddenly after having a heart attack. He represented Canada in many internation competitions. He was rated as the number 3 marathon runner by Track and Field News. In 1980, he was part of the Olympic Team that boycotted the games which were held in Moscow. In 2002 he carried the sign bearing Canada's name during the opening ceremonies in Salt Lake City. In 1986 Brian and his wife Jennifer developed the PowerBar, and began selling the energy bar out of their kitchen. He came up with the idea after dropping out of a 42km marathon at about the 33km mark - which was believed to be the point where the body quit burning carbohydrates and instead burned muscle tissue.
