Vesta Ransom (Asa2, James1) was born on 22 November 1859 at Suez, Mercer County, Illinois, daughter of Asa William Ransom and Susan Elizabeth Edwards. Vesta was married on 1 February 1894 at Aledo, Mercer County, Illinois to Joseph Ransom Fay. Joseph was born on 14 March 1855 in Brocton, Chautauqua County, New York, son of Joseph Belknap Fay and Martha Haywood. Joseph was an 1887 graduate of the Kansas City Medical College and in 1895 of the New York City Post Graduate Hospital Medical College. The Fays first lived in Topeka, Shawnee County, Kansas near Joseph's parents. In 1895, they lived nest door to Vesta's sister, Marcella (Ransom) Nowers and her family. They moved in 1897 to Chanute, Neosho County, Kansas.
On 13 June 1900, the couple and three children- Joseph, Martha, and Donald- lived on Depot Street in Chanute. Joseph was working as a "physician, surgeon, & druggist." The family was renting their home. In 1904 they moved back to Aledo for a short time before going to Topeka again where they resided at 1214 Harrison Street.
The family has not been located on the 1910 census.
In 1915, the couple and their children Joseph, Susan, and Donald lived in a rental home at 905 Lincoln Street in Topeka, Shawnee County, Kansas.
In January 1920, Joseph and Vesta, daughter Martha, and two boarders lived at 417 W. 7th Street in Topeka, Shawnee County, Kansas. They rented their home. Joseph was still working as a physician.
Joseph died on 5 July 1924 in Florida. He is buried in Lakeview Cemetery in Sanford, Seminole County, Florida.
On 28 May 1930, Vesta lived on Cameron Avenue in Sanford, Seminole County, Florida. She owned her home, but did not have a radio.
In 1935, Vesta and her son Donald lived in Precinct 8 in Charlotte County, Florida. She was a housekeeper while Donald was a machinist (he had a 10th grade education).
On 23 April 1940, Vesta lived with her daughter Martha (Fay) Ashton, Martha's husband James and son James, and her son Donald at 542 W. Salem Street in Glendale, Los Angeles County, California.
In November 1961, Vesta celebrated her 102nd birthday at the Toluca Lake Convalescent Hospital after she suffered a broken hip at her home at 516 N. Brighton Street in Burbank. At that time she had five grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
