They Didn't Want to Rush Headlong Into This Marriage

LOS ANGELES --- INS --- Homer Banta, now a retired laundry owner, and Mrs. Anna Ross, nee Smith, met 61 years ago in Fresno. They became engaged, but before they could marry, Banta, a volunteer fireman, was injured fighting a blaze and his parents sent him away for treatment.

Banta went to Alaska and ran a laundry for 25 years, then to San Leandro where he lived 27 years.

Banta visited Fresno two months ago and a newspaper published an interview with the oldtimer. Someone sent a clipping of the story to Mrs. Ross, a widow, now living in Los Angeles. They met again.

Monday, they took out a marriage license. Tuesday, the old sweethearts, both 78, were married.

OLDTIME SWEETHEARTS WED

Cutting their wedding cake after they were married in Los Angeles, Calif., Homer Banta and his bride, Mrs. Anna Ross, culminated a romance that started 60 years ago in Fresno, Calif. Banta moved to Indiana when he was 18, and each subsequently married and was widowed. The couple, each now 78, was re-united by a Fresno newspaper interview with Banta, a retired laundry owner, on his return to Los Angeles. ---- AP Wirephoto.
