Dr. John E. Bacon, 92, who came to Arizona as an Army surgeon in the Spanish American War and later practiced medicine in Tombstone, died Monday in Pomona, Calif.
Dr. Bacon moved from Tombstone in 1912. He became chief surgeon of the Miami Inspiration Hospital at Miami in later years.
While at Miami, he served as a president of the Arizona Medical Association, promoted sports events, and helped establish the Miami Athletic Association.
Active in the Democratic Party, he was a delegate to several national conventions. He retired 12 years ago and moved to California.
Dr. Bacon recently was featured in a memorial edition of the Tombstone Epitaph for his medical and civic service to Tombstone.
Survivors include a daughter with whom he resided the past year in Pomona, Mrs. Ann B. O’Connor; a son, John E. Bacon of San Francisco; and three grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. today in Todd Memorial Chapel in Pomona.
