Graveside service for Jack McDowell, age 84, of Frederick will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at Frederick Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Les Banks officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home. Mr. McDowell passed away on Monday morning, February 20, 2012 at Ayers Nursing Home in Snyder.
Tommie Louis "Jack" McDowell was born on November 27, 1927 in Grandfield, Oklahoma to William Patrick and Panne Mae (Pritchett) McDowell. He attended Grandfield Public Schools. Later he attended Okmulgee Tech and graduated in 1962 as an automotive mechanic. He served in the United States Army. He had worked as a farmer and as a night watchman for Chickasha Compress and Warehouse for many years. He was united in marriage to Illa Arlene Weathers on December 8, 1953 in Vernon, Texas. She preceded him in death on July 26, 2001. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Frederick.
He is survived by three sons: Larry McDowell of Oklahoma City, Grady McDowell of Dill City and Joe McDowell of Frederick; three daughters Phyllis Neasbitt and her husband A. J. of Durant, Sandra Whitehead and her husband Paul of Marlow, and Brenda Smith and her husband Lavern of Durant; one brother George McDowell of San Diego, California; eight grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a twin sister: Johnnie Lou McDowell, four other sisters: Effie Sherman, Beulah Polk, Louise Chambers and Princess Townsend; two brothers: Buster and Arthur McDowell; and two grandsons.
