While answering a sick call early yesterday morning, Mrs. Matilda Luce was thrown from a buggy through the horse
becoming frightened, sustaining fracture of three ribs and collar bone. She is under care of Dr. Harris at her home.

Pioneer Woman Passes Away
Mrs. Matilda Luce, a resident of Arlington for 21 years, died at her home thursday evening, July 6th, from injuries sustained last week in a runaway accident, death being due to shock. She suffered intensely but retained consciousness to the last and was peaceful and contented in her final hours, her daugthers Carrie and Ida being at the bedside. The funeral will be held from the residence Monday at 2 p.m., Rev. H. W. Johnson officiating.
Nellie Matilda Luce (nee McMillan) was born at Evansville, Wisc., July 26, 1848, died Arlington, Wash., July 8, 1911, at the age of 63 years. She was the last of the McMillans, an old New England family related to Isreal Putnam, The Revolutionary hero. She was a widow and is survived by five daughters and two sons, namely, Mrs. Carrie McDonald of Everett, Mrs. Eliza Keyser of Starbuck, Mrs. Adelma Binder of Walla Walla, Mrs. Ida Schoenheit of Oso, Mrs. Pearl Harris of Pasadena, Calif., Martin of Everett and Dave of Stanwood. Deceased was a woman of bright mind and quick sympathies, and will be missed by a large circle of acquaintances among the pioneer residents of Arlington.
