The war was too hard on William, he returned home and died soon afterwards. In the 1860 Census for Tuscaloosa Co., Alabama, their Post Office is listed as Fosters.
William married Elizabeth Eveline Thomas, 12 October 1839, Russell Co., Alabama. They were the parents of John Wesley, Seally Ann Elizabeth, Mary Catherine, William Barney W., James Sylvester, Jacob J. Thomas, Elizear J.R., Newton J., Alexander Blakely, and Manasa Emma Lee Skates.
