Lucinda's parents, Peter Smith & Abigail Archer, were married in Orange County, New York in 1807. Lucinda was born on March 15, 1808 in Orange County. Her parents moved to the wilderness of western New York in 1809. Peter served in the United States forces during the War of 1812. After the war, Peter returned to his family and continued to carve his homestead from the forest.
About 1832, Lucinda married Richard Lockhart, probably in Tompkins County. They moved to neighboring Schuyler County where they spent many years living in Catherine Township. Both Richard and Lucinda are buried in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Lucinda died in Seneca County on June 24, 1890 at age 82. Their tombstone in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Catherine Township, Schuyler County, New York reads "Richard Lockhart died February 22, 1885 at age 74, Lucinda his wife died June 24, 1890 at age 82"
