| Birth: | Apr. 16, 1866 | | Death: | Oct. 17, 1918 |  Puerto Rican poet, speaker, teacher, legislator and patriot. De Diego started his political life in the Assembly of the Autonomist Party in Mayaguez in 1891. He desired the fusion of the Party with the National Autonomist Party. Under the Autonomic government of 1897 he was sub-secretary of Justice. Under the Foraker Law he was elected to the Chamber of Delegates and from 1907 was its president. With the institution of the first House of Representatives in 1917, De Diego was its first president. (bio by: Jose Ruiz-Alvarez)
