Retired minister and mechanic, Joe S. ?Sim? Lang, 96, of 210 Short Ave., Orangeburg, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2007, in a local hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 23, at Cannon Bridge Road Church of God in Cordova, with the Revs. Robert Long, Richard Lang, Dewey Lang and Chris Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Blackville Cemetery in Blackville.
The casket will be placed in the church one hour before the service.
Active pallbearers will be Michael Crocker, Christopher Gartman, Phillip Lang, Oliver Lang, Frank Lang, Wayne Croft, Darrell Croft, Ronnie Lang and Robb Lang. Honorary pallbearers will be O?Neal Croft.
Mr. Lang was born March 29, 1910, in Summerville, to the late Joe L. Lang and Daisy Harmon Lang. He was a longtime resident of Summerville and lived in various places in both South and North Carolina. He was a retired minister, auto mechanic and garage owner. Mr. Lang was married to the late Bessie Dangerfield Lang for 56 years. He was preceded in death by three sons, Leon Ted and E.J. Lang; and a brother, Elias Lang.
Survivors include four daughters, Mary Croft (Wesley) of Bamberg, Ruby Crocker (Charles) of Summerville, Rita Gartman (Bobby) of Orangeburg and Patsy Cheverie (Bob) of Summerville; four sons, Oliver Lang (Josephine) of North, Dewey Lang (Ann) of The Colony, Texas, Bob Lang (Joyce) of Rock Hill and Richard Lang (Joan) of Wilmington, Ill.; two sisters, Myrtle Chesser of Ravenel and Rose Ann Harmon of Summerville; 34 grandchildren; 72 great-grandchildren; and 27 great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the residence of Rita Gartman, 210 Short Ave., Orangeburg, and at the funeral home.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg.
