LOCAL SOLDIER DIES

HAROLD PETERSON RECEIVED
SUMMONS LAST THURSDAY
AT MANHATTAN, KAN.

Another star in the Cedar county service flag tuned to gold last week when Harold R. Petersen, a member of the army, stationed at Manhattan, Kan., passed away in the hospita1 at Fort Riley, of pneumonia, following influenza. Private Peterson had been in the service Sept, 15th., when he was assigned to duty at the auto mechanic school at Manhattan.
Private Peterson was 23 years of age and was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Hans A. Peterson, northwest of town. He was born in Douglas county near Omaha and moved with his parents to Cedar county in 1904, residing here since that time. He became ill two weeks ago and his father and brother Chester were called, to Manhattan immediately, Chester reaming until the end, accompanying the body home. Private Ole Nelson was designated by the military authorities to accompany the body as a military escort.
It had been planned to take the body to the home of his parents where his mother and sister were ill but the health authorities deemed this unwise so it was brot, to the Bange parlors Saturday evening. The funeral service was conducted Sunday afternoon by Rev. Thompson. The Home Guards in command of Capt. E. R. Greenwood acted as a military escort, accompanying the funeral cortege to the cemetery.
Fred Peterson, a brother, attended the funeral ceremonies Sunday but was taken ill Monday and passed, away late Tuesday evening. He was 26 years of age and was a man of large build and heretofore enjoyed excellent health. The funeral is being held this afternoon, Rev. Thompson officiating. He was married and lived on the next place to his father's. He is survived by Mrs. Peterson, who is in a delicate condition, beside his parents and brother Chester, and sister.
The father of the young men is now very ill at home
