Birth: Mar. 2, 1840
Death: May 31, 1925

Son of Irby H. Scott and Mary Ellen Tompkins; brother of Pvt. Nicholas Ewing Scott, also of Company G, 12th Georgia Infantry, who was KIA in Battle of Spotsylvania Court House.

Company G "Putnam Light Infantry, 12th Georgia Infantry, Doles' Brigade, Rodes' Division, 2nd Corps, Army of Northern Virginia, C.S.A.

Residence Putnam County GA.
Enlisted on 6/15/1861 at Eatonton, GA., he was mustered into "G" Co. GA 12th Infantry as a Private.
Elected 3rd Lieut 8/7/1862.
Wounded in shoulder and thigh 8/30/1862 in 2nd Battle of Manassas, VA; Absent on 30-day sick leave, wounded on Nov & Dec 1862 Roll.
Promoted to 2nd Lieut 4/16/1863.
Listed as present, under-fire 5/2&3/1863 in Battle of Chancellorsville, VA.
Promoted to 1st Lieut 4/2/1864.
He was Surrendered on 4/9/1865 at Appomattox Court House, VA.

Postwar he lived in Putnam County.
In 2010, a transcription of his wartime letters was published:
Lee and Jackson's Bloody Twelfth: The Letters of Irby Goodwin Scott, First Lieutenant, Company G, Putnam Light Infantry, Twelfth Georgia Volunteer Infantry edited by Johnnie P. Pearson.

The 12th Infantry Regiment completed its organization in June, 1861, at Richmond, Virginia. Its members were from the counties of Sumter, Jones, Macon, Calhoun, Muscogee, Dooly, Putnam, Bibb, Lowndes, and Marion. (bio by: BigFrench)
