Tivis Bernard Davis, 81 of Rocketts Way, Newton died Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at his residence. Born in Buchanan Va., July 4, 1928, he was the son of the late Samuel Lee & Stella Richardson Davis. Tivis started working in the coal mines and later on the Virginia railway. From 1953 to 1970 he worked with the Ford Motor Company. He worked as a carpenter & other jobs with the US Navy. His hobbies include fishing and quilting. Tivis quilted as many as 103 quilts in his lifetime. In addition to his wife, Dolores Davis; a step daughter, Marjory Lackwold of Palmer Alaska; two sons, Ira Daniel Davis, Tivis Maynard Davis of Ohio; three sisters, Erma Grizzle of Castlewood, Va., Charlotte Littleton of Newton, Shirley Christoph of Mesa, Arizona; three brothers, Delmar Davis of Bristol, Va., Cecil Davis of Haines City, Florida, James Davis of Mansfield, Ohio; several grand-children, several great grand-children and many nieces and nephews survive him. A brother, Daniel Boone Davis and a daughter, Violet Davis preceded him in death. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 27, 2010 at First Baptist Church in Newton. The Davis family has entrusted arrangements to Jenkins Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Newton.
