MRS. PHEBE ANN CLARK
In the passing away of Mrs. Phebe Ann Clark at her home in Omaha on Tuesday, November 27, Calhoun loses one of its most loved residents and Nebraska one of its earliest pioneers.
She was born Feb. 4, 1835, in Ohio, and was married to Charles Hicks Clark in Laporte, Ind., March 8, 1855, the couple coming to Nebraska the following spring, both residing in this section until their deaths, Mr. Clark passing away a few years ago. Five children survive, as follows: Cara, who made her home with her mother; Cora, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Mrs. Phillip Potter, of Omaha, Mrs. Foster, of Seattle, Wash., and Andrew, of Wichita, Kas.
The death of Mrs. Clark takes from this vicinity the last pioneer member of a prominent and honored family. Her father, Dr. J. P. Andrew, a physician and a minister of the Christian church, was one of the best known and loved men of the early days in Nebraska.
About three months ago Mrs. Clark and daughter Cara removed to Omaha in order that the mother could be more comfortably situated to withstand the winter, and while the friends her knew that her health was failing, the news of her death came as a shock to them. Hers was a beautiful life, whose best monument is the loving memory in which she is held by all who knew her.
The funeral services will be conducted by Canon Marsh, of Blair, at the Presbyterian church this afternoon, and interment made in the Ft. Calhoun cemetery.
