Obit- Benjamin John Wesley Spellman
Benjamin John Wesley Spellman, second child of John and Pauline Spellman, was born December 7, 1890 near Kramer, Lancaster County, Nebraska. He moved with his parents to Clay Center, Kansas in 1902 where they farmed. On June 15, 1916 at the Methodist Church, Woodbine, Kansas, Ben married Anna Ahrens, who was born January 28, 1888 in Kansas. Ben and Anna had just graduated from the Methodist Academy at Enterprise, Kansas. Ben was working for Anna's brother at Sylvia, Kansas. He was planning to be a minister. Ben was traveling home and stopped to drink from a well. He was stricken with typhoid fever. Ben passed away September 15, 1916. He was buried in the Ebenezer Cemetery, Clay Center, Kansas. No children were born to this union. Anna had promised him that she would not remarry. She went to live with her sister in Woodbine, Kansas. Later Anna and her sister went to live with their brother in Goodland, Kansas. When the brother and sister passed away, Anna was moved to the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Goodland. Anna passed away October 12, 1979. She was buried in the Woodbine Cemetery, Woodbine, Kansas.
