LESTER CLARK GREENE, Well Known Citizen Died Tuesday Night
Lester Clark Greene, one of the oldest and best known residents of Crowley, passed away at the family home, 720 East Second street, Tuesday night at 11:30 o'clock. Mr. Greene was 76 years of age. He was a native of Swanton, Vt., where he was born September 29, 1841.
Twenty-five years ago Mr. Greene came to Crowley. Since his residence here he had been identified with rice milling and mercantile interests in this city. He retired from active business some months ago. Deceased was a civil war veteran, a member of the G.A.R., and served for nearly three years in the conflict between the states as a member of the First Vermont Cavalry.
Deceased is survived by his widow, two daughters, Mrs. J. E. Platt of Santiago, Cal.; Mrs. C. F. Matthews of Crowley, and a son, G. G. Greene of Santiago, Cal. An only brother, R. L. Greene, of Swanton, Vt., also survives. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock from the late residence with interment in Protestant cemetery.
