He began in the 1920s, working on Chicago radio as a pianist and moved on as music director for CBS during the late 1930s and 1940s. With the advent of television, he was composing music when contracted to conduct the Desi Arnaz Orchestra for the "I Love Lucy" series. From 1951, until the time of his death, he was resident musical director of Desilu Studios and Desilu Productions. He died in Studio City, California.
