HAZEL GREEN, Wis. - Shirley Clark, 72, of 2115 Elm St., Hazel Green, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church, Hazel Green, with the Rev. John Hall officiating. The Haudenshield Funeral Home, Cuba City, is serving the family. She was born on June 30, 1928, in Dubuque, daughter of Raymond Galliart and Evelyn Aitchison McLaughlin. She was married in a candlelight service to George E. Clark, on Dec. 3, 1949, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Dubuque, by Dr. Rollo A. Porre, president of the University of Dubuque, where they both attended. They lived in Dubuque, Sleepy Hollow Manor, Ill., and later in Hazel Green. She and her husband enjoyed traveling and camping with the family. They also enjoyed raising boxer dogs together for many years. She was a Brownie Girl Scouts leader in Sleepy Hollow Manor and Hazel Green. She was an active member of the PTA and Band Mother's Association and was a member of the United Methodist Church, Hazel Green. She was a graduate of Dubuque Senior High School, enrolled at The Finley Hospital School of Nursing and attended the University of Dubuque, where she obtained her R.N. She was employed at the Hazel Green hospital until her early retirement. She was night head nurse, in-service director and taught nursing assistant classes with a teacher certificate from Fennimore Vocational Technical Institute at Hazel Green hospital. She recently attended the 50-year reunion as a member of The Finley Hospital Alumni Association in Dubuque, having joined in 1949. She also enjoyed cards and board games, and time spent watching her family and grandchildren grow. She also treasured her special sister, Barbara Jean. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by family, relatives and friends, and her special friend and companion, Prince, her dog.
Surviving are three daughters, Maureen (Stanley) Gobrecht, of Belmont, Tracy (Rodney) Rote, of Marengo, Ill., and Barbara (Wayne Jr.) Wasmund, of Galena, Ill.; a son, Gregory (Angie) Clark, of Madison; nine grandchildren, Christina, Valerie Gobrecht, LeeAnn, Tarah, Rodney Jr. and Randy Rote, Brooklynn Clark, Ben Wasmund and Kathreen Clark; a sister, Barbara J. Wideman; and two nephews, Eric and Ivan, in Huntington Beach, Calif. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Clark, on Jan. 27, 1996.
