Medical Pioneer. As a microbiologist doctor, he is credited for discovering the cause of sexually transmitted diseases. He moved to America in 1920 and obtained a job as a research assistant medical researcher at The University of Pennsylvania. In 1911, while working at the Rockefeller University, he devised the Wasserman Skin Test to detect the causes of an agent of syphilis which was the cause of progressive paralytic disease. While conducting methods to prevent and treat yellow fever, he contracted the disease and died at age 50. In the coarse of his career, Noguchi was nominated nine times for the Nobel Prize in Medicine (1913-15, 1920- 21, 1924-27). (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
