| Birth: | Mar. 2, 1842 Mount Jackson Lawrence County Pennsylvania, USA | | Death: | Feb. 7, 1892 Harrisburg Dauphin County Pennsylvania, USA |  Civil War Union Army Officer, US Congressman. He was attending Westminster College, New Wilmington, Pennsylvania when he enlisted in the Union Army. Mustered in as a Private in Battery B, 1st Pennsylvania Reserves Light Artillery, he was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant on April 8, 1864, 1st Lieutenant on September 12, 1864, and to Captain and battery commander on February 23, 1865. After four years of service he was mustered out after the war's end on June 9, 1865. After the war he attended Allegheny College, studied law, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law at Mount Jackson in 1870. He was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-second Congress and served from March 4, 1871 to March 3, 1873. Unsuccessful as a candidate for reelection in 1872 to the Forty-third Congress, he resumed the practice of law until his death. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
