[Please note that the regiment on the tombstone is incorrect. John Lamca did not serve with the 17th Pennsylvania Infantry.]
The son of George Johann & Maria Elizabeth (Gastruck) Lamca, arriving in America in 1844. In 1860, he was a farmer living in Greenwood Township, Perry County, Pennsylvania, and stood 5' 8" tall with dark hair and brown eyes. A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Harrisburg August 3, 1864, mustered into federal service there August 31 as a private with Co. I, 17th Pennsylvania Cavalry (162nd Pa), and honorably discharged with his company June 16, 1865. He married Sarah Ellen Matthews,.
