| Birth: | Jun. 1, 1915 | | Death: | Jan. 2, 2003 |  Major League Baseball Player. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, he was a right fielder making his debut for the New York Yankees on April 27, 1943. For four seasons, he played with the New York Yankees (1943-46) and was a member of the Yankees 1943 World Series Championship. He ended his career with a record of 187 runs scored, 344 hits, 31 home runs, 156 runs batted in and a .247 batting average. In 1948, he joined the Old Dominion athletic staff as head baseball coach, compiling a record of 423 wins, 363 loss, 6 loss and captured the Virginia State Championship before retiring in 1980. He enshrined in the College Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in Dallas in 1983 and is a member of the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame. He died at age 87 in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
