1st wife of James Edgar Carey
Mother of Wallace, Clyde and Samuel
The News-Herald. (Hillsboro, Highland Co., Ohio) 1886-1973, Thursday May 29, 1890,
Ada L., daughter of Joel and Sarah Hart, was born near Willettsville, Highland county, Ohio, on the 4th day of October, 1864, and died on the 15th day of May, 1890.
She spent most of her life in Highland and Clinton counties. She was married to James E. Carey on the 2d day of October, 1884, and to them were born three children.
The first four years of her married life were spent at Careytown in quiet enjoyment, with no cloud to dim the horizon of her wedded life. About two years ago she, with her husband and children, removed to Belfast. Shortly after the sad affilction of two deaths in the family Ada herself took the measles, after having tirelessly tended her husband through an attack of the same disease. Owing to complication her sickness proved fatal, and she departed this life leaving her husband and first-born son to mourn her loss.
She was a woman of affectionate disposition, and had a deep love for her husband and family, which love she daily showed by her unselfishness and self-sacrifice, tending to their wants and the duties of life with an utter regardlessness of self. Her dying words were, "There is nothing between me and the heavenly home to which I am going. My sins are all washed out in tho blood of the lamb. Glory! Glory! I am perfectly pure. I have sweet ties on earth, but I have sweeter ties in heaven. I would like to stay with Jim and little Wallace, but if it's the Lord's will I am willing to go." She exhorted all to work for the saving of their souls.
Thou hast left as, Ada dear
Lonely now our lives will be,
But short will be our journeying here,
And then in heaven will dwell with thee.
Yes, Dearest Ada, thou has left us,
And thy loss we deeply feel,
But 'tis God that has berefs us,
He can all our sorrows heal.
The funeral services were held in the Friends Church at Samantha, Rev.Joseph Wright officiating. Her remains were laid to rest beside her children in the graveyard on the hill.
