US Congressman. A member of the Republican Party, he served Virginia's 4th District in the US House of Representatives from 1973 to 1983. The son of a former state senator of Virginia, he received his BA from the University of Virginia and earned his MBA from Columbia University. During his collegiate years, he served with the US Army Reserve and following graduation in 1961, he worked as a farmer, financial analyst and teacher. From 1964 until 1968, Daniel served with the Central Intelligence Agency and launched his political career as a delegate to the 1972 Republican National Convention. During his tenure in Congress he was a member the House Armed Services Committee. After leaving Capitol Hill, he was appointed Deputy Assistant Defense Secretary under Casper Weinberger (1984 to 1986) and later served as Director of Intelligence for the Department of Energy from 1990 to 1993. He died from a heart attack.
