Richard Tilley Archer, 94, passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2012, in Meridian, Texas. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, February 11, 2012, at Lawson Funeral Home in Meridian. The funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, February 12, 2012, at the funeral home with Rev. Phil Murphy and Rev. Archer Murphy officiating. Burial to follow at Morgan Cemetery outside of Morgan, Texas.
Tilley was born in Kopperl, Texas, to the late Fredrick and Jesse Archer. Tilley was born and raised on the family farm in Kopperl and graduated from Kopperl high school. He was, by some accounts, the number one fisherman in Bosque County. Tilley worked as a machinist in Dallas for many years and was a member of the Kopperl Masonic Lodge as well. Tilley was a veteran and served his county well in its time of need. He recieved many awards for his bravery during the war including a Good Conduct Medal, a Combat Infantry Badge, and six Bronze Battle Stars for being in an initial landing.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jessie Miles (Bishop) Archer; brothers, Herbert, Marvin, Hershell, Kenneth, and Lavoy Archer; and a sister Ruth Worlow.
Tilley is survived by sister, Teddy Lea Murphy, of Meridian, Texas; and many other family members and friends.
