HARLEM - Fred Emil Hockhalter, a retired policeman who enjoyed fishing, playing pinochle, helping his friends brand on Sundays, picking juneberries, going on picnics and being outdoors in general, died of natural causes Monday, Feb. 6, at Sweet Nursing Home in Chinook. He was 101.
Visitation is 7 p.m. Friday at the Red Whip Center. His funeral is 11 a.m. Saturday at the Red Whip Center, with burial in Hockhalter Family Cemetery. Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Alyce Hockhalter of Harlem; sons, Gerald Hockhalter of Harlem, Richard Hockhalter of Hobson, Carl Hockhalter of Spokane, Louis Hockhalter of Terry and Fred Hockhalter Jr. of Aberdeen, S.D.; daughters, Shirley Getten of Great Falls and Linda Lanza of Springfield, Mo.; a brother, John Hockhalter of Milwaukee, Wis.; and numerous grandchildren.
