SPRATT, Margaret Margaret Louise Pickett Spratt of Atlanta died Sunday, December 20, 2009, after a brief illness. She was born on September 11, 1923, in Sicily Island, Louisiana. She was the youngest, and last surviving, of seven children of the Reverend Robert Tilden Pickett and Lillian Price Pickett. Her father was a Methodist minister who served the Northern Louisiana Conference, so she grew up in numerous communities throughout that region. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, James D. Spratt. They met in Jackson, Mississippi, while both were working for the Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company. They married after he returned from military service in World War II, and after having lived in New Orleans, moved to Atlanta in 1955. A lifelong Methodist, Margaret was a member of Peach-tree Road United Methodist Church for 42 years, where she held numerous roles in service to the Church and its community. She was an avid reader with a wide range of literary interests. She was a woman of enduring charm and grace with a wonderful sense of humor and many friends. She will be remembered as a dedicated wife, nurturing parent, and devoted friend. She is survived by her children Susan Spratt Thomas, Nancy Spratt Arnett, and James D. Spratt, Jr.; sons-in-law, John Beasley Thomas, III and James Edward Arnett; daughter-in-law, Susan Turk Spratt; seven grandchildren, John Beasley Thomas, IV, Anna Thomas Koeppel, Sarah Frances Thomas, Elizabeth Claire Arnett, James Edward Arnett, Jr., Margaret Lytle (Molly) Spratt, and James Dean Spratt, III; and four great-grandchildren, John, Mate, Grace, and Lillian. She is survived also by many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 27th at 2 pm at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church in the sanctuary with a reception to follow in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, 3180 Peachtree Road, NW, Atlanta, Georgia 30305, or the United Methodist Children's Home, 500 South Columbia Drive, Decatur, Georgia 30030. Arrangements by H.M. Patterson and Son, Arlington Chapel.
