Mr. Charles H. Meade
May 15, 1913 - February 7, 2012
Meade, CWO Charles Herman, U.S. Army, Retired, Passed away on February 7, 2012 at the Spa Creek Nursing home in Annapolis, MD after nearly five years of being taken care of by the dedicated staff.
He was born May 15, 1913 in Castlewood, VA and lived in Northern Virginia for many years. He was the only son of the late Charles A. and Elizabeth "Lizzy" Smith Meade.
In July 1933 he enrolled in the Civilian Conservation Corps, and served until June 1937. His duties included medical aid, Supply Sergeant and First Sergeant. In October 1939 Mr. Meade enlisted in the U.S. Army and began a long and distinguished career.
During his 27 year Army career he received innumerable letters of outstanding and superior performance ratings. Among his awards were the Army Commendation medal with First Oak Leaf and the Legion of Merit in July 1966. His Army career took him to Hawaii for one tour and to Germany for two tours. His last assignment was with the Casualty office at the Military Personnel Center, He retired as Chief Warrant Officer, W-4, in July 1966.
Following his Army career, he worked as a civil service employee for the Army Material Command at the Pentagon, retiring in 1975. Mr. Meade looked back on his career with satisfaction, saying many times it was the best thing he could have done and he had a good time and good career. Following his retirement Mr. Meade did extensive volunteer work for a CCC alumni group and traveled the world with his second wife, Maude.
Mr. Meade was predeceased by his beloved first wife, Nell, in 1976 and his beloved second wife, Maude, in 2008. Also predeceasing him were his six sisters. He is survived by his loving and devoted stepdaughter, Rita Demma, and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call on Saturday, February 11 from 9-10 AM, with funeral service to follow at 10, at Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis. Interment is private.
