Obituary, Florida Times-Union, February 9, 2012
Genevieve (Gen) Clara Chaney, 84, of Jacksonville joined her husband in heaven on Friday, February 3rd, 2012. Born to Swedish immigrants in Kingsburg, California in 1927, Gen was raised in the San Francisco Bay area. That is where she met her former husband, Horace Milton while he was stationed there with the U.S. Navy. Married in 1952, Gen and Milt lived a blissful life of fifty-four years together before Milt joined the Lord in February 2006. A Navy wife, Gen raised five children under strict Christian principles and always lived by the golden rule.
Gen was an accomplished seamstress, artist and genealogist. She was small in physical stature but huge in the soul. Her advice and guidance on childcare, cooking, sewing, and life in general was sought by many during her lifetime. Gen always had the time to provide a helping hand and a word of encouragement to all who requested or needed it. A Christian woman to the end, Gen loved life and all those that she came into contact with.
Proceeded in death by her husband Milt and son Mark, Mrs. Chaney is survived by her daughters Sheree, Jaclyn, and sons Jon and Peter. Additionally, she had eight grandchildren (David, Laura, Christopher, Jill, Kevin, Wendy, Matthew and Danielle) and ten great grandchildren.
Viewing will be from 6-8 PM Friday, 10 February at Hardage-Giddens Town and Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, 11 February, 2 PM at Hyde Park Baptist Church on Jacksonville's Westside at 2000 Lane Ave. South. Final internment will follow the memorial service at Riverside Memorial Park.
